Orateva develops reforestation and forest conservation carbon projects in partnership with local communities, from the first conversations in a territory through to certification.
We are developing our first project in the high Andean puna of Áncash, northern Peru, between 3,500 and 4,500 metres, under the Verified Carbon Standard.

Reforestation, conservation, community partnership and carbon belong to a single project. They are designed together, carried out together, and monitored together over time.
Every project starts from the realities of the territory: its soils, its existing forests, its farming and grazing practices, and the priorities the community expresses itself.
Our first project takes shape in the high Andean territories of Áncash, in northern Peru.
The name refers to the puna, the cold grassland plateau above the tree line, where eroded slopes, thin soils and grazing pressure shape what restoration can realistically achieve.
Work today is at pre-feasibility: understanding the territory, mapping existing practices, and building the conversation with the people who hold and use this land.
The location shown is general and indicative. Parcel boundaries are not displayed: the project perimeter is not defined yet, and drawing one would suggest a level of certainty the work has not reached.
This map will gain precision as the territory is surveyed and agreements are signed.
Our approach
How a project is built
Four movements, in the order they actually happen. Each one produces something the next depends on.

Understand the territory
Soils, existing forest, native species, water, and the farming and grazing practices already in place. What the land can carry decides what gets planted.

Build the partnership
Roles, commitments, decision-making and benefit sharing are defined with the community members involved, then written into clear agreements.

Carry out the work
Nursery production, site preparation, planting, maintenance. Assisted natural regeneration, diversified plantings and agroforestry, chosen to fit the site.

Monitor over time
Field measurement, remote sensing and digital collection feed one MRV system, which guides decisions and prepares independent validation and verification.
Polylepis woodlands are the highest forests on Earth, growing where almost nothing else does, up to 5,000 metres.

A project is only as credible as what can be checked about it.
Field plots, diameter and height measurements, survival counts, satellite imagery and remote sensing are combined into a single monitoring system. The same data guides technical decisions and prepares the certification file.
Orateva develops its carbon projects under the Verified Carbon Standard, administered by Verra. Design, independent validation, registration and verification of results are distinct stages, and we name which one a project has actually reached.
